One of the most practical bags, the Louis Vuitton Odeon is one to follow.
The eighties are known for a lot of things–big hair, bright colors, and oversized clothing. While many probably cringe at their fashion choices during the decade, Louis Vuitton took inspiration from one of its popular bags of the era and gave it a modern twist.
What came out was the Odeon bag. Inspired by the original satchel shape, the new Odeon includes modern features like reinforced corners and a stylish luggage tag.

Louis Vuitton Brand History
Louis Vuitton opened his first store on rue Neuve-des-Capucines in Paris, France in 1854. With his ingenious trunk designs, it didn’t take long for him to make a name for himself.
As the years went by, the brand expanded into clothing, accessories, and handbags. This diversification, plus LV’s move to join the LVMH luxury conglomerate, have further helped the brand expand its offerings and global presence.
Louis Vuitton Odeon History
Louis Vuitton released the “body-friendly satchel-like” Odeon bag in the 1980s. The original model came in the house’s Classic LV Monogram canvas and featured a natural cowhide leather trim and a shoulder strap.
The brand decided to discontinue the Odeon some years later, much to the chagrin of fans who loved its easy everyday shape and functionality.
Fortunately, Louis Vuitton decided to bring back the popular style in its 2020 Fall/Winter Collection, albeit with a few modern updates.
Louis Vuitton Odeon Description

While the new Odeon was certainly inspired by its vintage counterpart, there are a number of differences to be aware of.
For example, instead of featuring leather trim at the top of the bag, the new Odeon has leather reinforcements on the bottom corners, making it more durable.
Another major change is the shape of the Odeon. Whereas the eighties version had a rounded shape, the new model is more of a rounded rectangle.
Lastly, the design team added a leather LV luggage tag to the front of the bag for increased visual interest.
Other features of the Odeon include a double zip closure and a fully adjustable and detachable leather shoulder strap.

What Fits in the Louis Vuitton Odeon?
What fits in the Odeon Crossbody bag
The smaller PM crossbody can fit a full-sized wallet, keys, and a small water bottle. If you substitute a small wallet, you’re able to fit a small notebook or book.
The larger MM Odeon crossbody can fit a full-size wallet, a makeup pouch filled with several products, keys, a phone, and a small notebook with plenty of room left.
What fits in the Odeon Tote bag
The PM Odeon tote can fit a full size wallet, a small book or agenda, a phone, keys with a pouch, sunglasses with a soft case and a small water bottle. As you can see, for a small tote it does fit a lot, and definitely all you need for a day out. Size wise, the PM tote is similar to the Speedy 25.
The MM Odeon tote can fit: a book, a water bottle, sunglasses with a case, an iPad with a case, a make-up pouch, phone, keys and miscellaneous small items.
LV Odeon Tote: PM vs MM – Which one is better?
We recommend the PM Odeon tote for most women. It’s a great alternative to the Speedy 25, but it’s less bulky thus more wearable. It has plenty of space for all your stuff including sunglasses and a water bottle.
If you love big bags or if you need to carry an iPad pro or a small laptop with you, then the MM Odeon would be a great option.
Louis Vuitton Crossbody Odeon: PM or MM?
The PM Odeon crossbody is much smaller than the MM, but it still fits a decent amount of items. Unless you need to carry a lot of stuff, the PM would probably suffice. It is down to personal preference and maybe body type if the PM or MM would suit you best. If you’re petite we recommend you go for the PM as to not be too overwhelming on your body frame.
Louis Vuitton Odeon Materials
Odeons are produced using either Signature Monogram canvas or Damier Ebène. This material is lightweight, easy to clean, and water-repellent, making it a no-fuss option for everyday handbags.
Cowhide leather is used in the strap and corner reinforcements and is complemented with gold-color hardware.
The inside of the Odeon is lined with black fabric.

Is the Louis Vuitton Odeon Worth Buying?
The Odeon is a great everyday bag with just a touch of luxury. We particularly like the detachable shoulder strap, reinforced corners, and lightweight canvas material.
Together, these features make for a durable, versatile bag that will stand up to daily wear and tear without skipping a beat.
While there’s a lot to love about this bag, there are some downsides to mention. Perhaps the most annoying part of the Odeon is the narrow opening. This feature makes organizing and accessing items a huge pain.
Another downside is that the crossbody strap isn’t long enough for some people. Yes, it’s detachable, but not being able to use the included strap is unfortunate at this price point.
Overall, we recommend the Odeon, but if you’re someone who values functionality over looks, this bag might not be the right fit for you. Similarly, if you have neck or shoulder problems, you’ll struggle to enjoy this crossbody design.
