Dating back to the early 1950s, the Saigon is one of Maison Goyard’s most recognizable handbags. Check out this article to learn more about this bag and the elusive company behind it.
Maison Goyard History
Goyard’s history dates back to 1792 when Pierre-François Martin founded the House of Martin, a trunk- and box-making shop. The shop was then taken over by Louis-Henri Morel who passed it onto François Goyard upon his death in 1852.
Throughout its existence, the Parisian house has operated with an air of mystery by keeping its branding subtle and avoiding e-commerce entirely. Still, its old-school marketing strategy seems to be working, as Goyard is one of the most reputable luxury houses in the world.
Goyard Saigon History and Description
The Saigon bag is one of Goyard’s classic models and it has a romantic origin story. It was created in the early 1950s as a special-order birthday gift from a Frenchman living in Saigon to his wife.
Following some updates in 2002, the bag became part of the brand’s permanent collection.
Goyard makes two Saigon styles, the Structuré (structured) and the Souple (supple). Both are trapezoidal in shape, have a tuck-in flap, and sport a hand-carved beechwood handle.
There are some differences between the two models, however. The Structured type has a firm base with metal feet and two polished wood batons running vertically along the front flap. The Supple version has neither.
Like many of Goyard’s pieces, the Saigon bears the House’s y-shaped motif (also called the Goyardine pattern) inspired by Goyard’s log-driving ancestors.
Goyard Saigon Sizes
The Goyard Saigon comes in three sizes: the Mini, the PM (petite modèle), and the MM (moyen modèle).

What Fits in the Goyard Saigon?
The Saigon Mini fits a compact wallet, keys, phone, makeup (lipstick, power compact, and mascara), and sunglasses without a case.
The PM can fit everything that the Mini can but with the addition of a sunglasses case and some additional items like a small bottle of hand lotion or a small jewelry sachet.
Finally, the MM can fit all of your daily essentials, plus one or two larger items like an eReader or a small notebook.

Goyard Saigon Materials
Goyard most often uses Goyardine for its Saigon bags. This material is similar to leather in appearance but it is made from a mixture of hemp, linen, and cotton topped with coated cloth. The Goyard motif is created by adding layers of etching on top.
Saigon bag accents are made out of leather (usually Clamecy Cowhide) and polished wood.
The bag’s interior is made out of canvas and comes in the brand’s signature mustard yellow color. Its hardware is made out of Palladium.
In rarer cases, the Structured Saigon bag can be made out of calfskin leather or crocodile.
Bag colors include neutrals (black, black/tan, grey, and white) and colors (yellow, red, orange, burgundy, sky blue, navy blue, and green).

Goyard Saigon Prices
Like many luxury designers, Goyard is tight-lipped when it comes to its prices. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to find correct, up-to-date information.
We’ve done our best to cross-check prices with other bag lovers to compile the table below but please only use these prices as estimates.
Note that as of August 2022, bag prices are the same, regardless of color. This is a chance in Goyard’s policy. Prior to that date, non-neutrals cost more than neutrals.

Where to buy a Goyard Saigon?
