About Chloe
Gaby Aghion founded Chloe as a ready-to-wear brand in 1952. Since then, notable designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney have taken turns in the Creative Director role.
One Creative Director, Phoebe Philo, was responsible for launching the brand’s leatherware collection. Her incredibly popular Paddington bag was released in 2005. The success of this style helped cement Chloe as a major player in the luxury bag space.
Since then, the brand has released a number of other successful bags, including the Silverado and the Alice.
Chloe Marcie History

British designer Hannah McGibbon created the Marcie bag for Chloe in 2009. Like many of her creations, the Marcie was designed to be “understated, sensitive, and real.”
Thanks to McGibbon’s sharp eye, the Marcie was an instant hit with celebrities and consumers alike.
Even now, more than 10 years later, the Marcie is one of the brand’s most popular styles. What’s more, Chloe has released a number of seasonal and special edition versions of the bag, ensuring that it stays current.

Chloe Marcie Description
The Chloe Marcie is a casual saddle bag heavily inspired by equestrianism and 70s bohemia.
Recognizable features include the large, saddle-shaped front flap, two braided top handles (on the Double Carry style), a curved shape, piped leather detailing, and heavy brass hardware.
Additional features include a detachable shoulder strap for crossbody or shoulder carrying and an opera ticket pocket tucked underneath the front flap.
Inside the bag, there’s one zippered pocket and one open pocket.
In addition to the classic saddle bag, Chloe has repurposed the main design features for hobo bags, satchels, and wallets.

Chloe Marcie Materials and Colors
Grained calfskin is the most common material Chloe uses in its Marcie bags.
More specifically, it uses semi-aniline leather. This type of leather is only slightly pigmented, meaning that the natural leather grain and hair pores must remain free from dyes.
Not only does this process preserve the natural character of the leather, but it also creates an incredibly durable product that tends to look better with age.
Some special edition bags are made out of other materials like suede or raffia. In addition, some models feature details like metal studs or blanket stitches.
The interior of the Marcie is lined with either linen or cotton, depending on the model.
There’s no shortage of colors when it comes to the Marcie. Neutral colors like black, white, tan, and brown as always available, while each season brings a variety of shades ranging from light green to smoky red.

Where can I buy the Chloe Marcie?
You can purchase a Chloe Marcie online directly from Chloe.com as well as at the numerous online stockists such as Net-a-Porter, MyTheresa, Nordstrom & Matches Fashion.
You can buy a Marcie in person if you have a Chloe boutique nearby or a large department store that stocks Chloe (such as Nordstrom).
If you’re looking to grab a bargain, check out the pre-loved market – sites like Fashionphile, Rebag or eBay have plenty of second-hand Marcies at great prices.

Is the Chloe Marcie Worth Buying?
We’re fans of the well-constructed, trendy (but not too trendy) Marcie bag. Given the craftsmanship and the materials used, this is definitely a bag that will hold up well over time.
What’s more, the Marcie comes in a range of colors and sizes, meaning you’ll have no trouble finding a variation of this bag to suit your lifestyle.
If you’re okay with buying preloved, we recommend you look at websites like Fashionphile, Rebag or eBay as you can save more than half off retail for some Marcie models.
All of that said, the only model we don’t recommend is the Nano. While it’s adorable, it’s simply not big enough to fit even basic essentials.
